Revisiting the Ravens' 2006 draft

This is examing over the past three years. Grades are based on performance, where players were picked (too high, too low) and whether they remain with their original team.

Here were the selections:

Baltimore Ravens: 2006 Draft
Rd. Pick Player Pos. School
1. 12 Haloti Ngata DT Oregon
2. 56 Chris Chester C Oklahoma
3. 87 David Pittman DB NW State-Louisiana
4. 111 Demetrius Williams WR Oregon
4. 132 P.J. Daniels RB Georgia Tech
5. 146 Dawan Landry SS Georgia Tech
5. 166 Quinn Sypniewski TE Colorado
6. 203 Sam Koch P Nebraska
6. 208 Derrick Martin CB Wyoming
7. 219 Ryan LaCasse LB Syracuse

Analysis:

Baltimore rarely has two poor drafts in a row and the team bounced back strong in 2006.

Defensive tackle Haloti Ngata started right away and was part of the playoff team that went 13-3 his rookie year. Ngata, 24, continues to be a force in the middle and could be a future star in the NFL. The same can be said for young safety Dawan Landry, who was one of the top second-day steals in 2006 as a fifth rounder. Center/guard Chris Chester, receiver Demetrius Williams and tight end Quinn Sypniewski all earned playing time their first two seasons in the league. And sixth-round pick Sam Koch has solidified the team's punting job.

This is a very solid draft class that upgraded Baltimore's offense, defense and special teams.

Grade: B+
